How to get better at 3D modeling

Could you defuse a bomb?

Of course not!

And why?

Because you lack of knowledge on explosives.

Can you cut a wire?

Sure you can!

It is a simple task, right?

What does this have to do with modeling?

Well, think about it.

You may not be able to create a dream scifi environment...yet.

But, maybe you can model a simple element of it, like a terminal, or a locker.

That is the key!

Go slow, step by step, element by element.

Learn the basics, overall shape creation and detailing principles.

This is the proper, frustration free, way of studying.

You are not alone in this.

I could not model a super complex ship from Star Citizen.

I lack knowledge on architecture and advanced engineering.

But, by studying the work of high end pros and specialists in their fields, I can learn.

Modeling is a path, and it consists of multiple stages of knowledge and skill.

The secret here is to keep climbing higher and higher, slowly but systematically.

Daily practice is one of the best ways to improve.

For me it is a constant and complete immersion in anything Sci-Fi.

The above video is a great example of such a day-to-day modeling exercise.
